My honest thoughts on Bookcase

Bookcase turns your phone into an e-reader

My name is Savannah and I’m a long-time member of the Astropad team. This week, we launched Bookcase, a brand new product that makes reading on your phone more comfortable.

At first glance, Bookcase may seem like an unlikely addition to our lineup of creative tools. But here on the Astropad team, many of us are avid readers ourselves, and we love to build products that we personally use.

Five months with a Bookcase prototype

I’ve been living on a Bookcase prototype for the past five months, using it every day to read books and long-form content on my phone. I’m not a fast reader or an academic one, but I can honestly say that Bookcase has made it easier to build a reading habit.

Now, Bookcase is a mainstay on my coffee table, and when I flop onto the couch at the end of a long day, I’m more likely to reach for Bookcase than the TV remote.

I also take Bookcase out in the world with me: It fits perfectly in my purse, and I’ve brought it along to doctors appointments when I knew I’d be waiting a while.

And it’s a great travel companion because I don’t need to pack a separate device like a Kindle.

What I’ve been reading with Bookcase

If you’re curious, here are a few of the books I finished with my Bookcase prototype:

Favorite book I read: Pachinko by Min Jin Lee – a somber and intimate historical fiction that follows multiple generations of a Korean family living in Japan.

Surprisingly delightful: Convenience Store Woman by Sayaka Murata – a quick and quirky novel about a woman who spends her life working in a Japanese konbini.

What I’m reading now: My Year of Rest and Relaxation by Ottessa Moshfegh

Turn spare time into reading time

If you’re an avid reader (or want to be one!) I encourage you to give Bookcase a try. We spend so much time on our phones already, so why not use that time to read?

I can’t wait to hear what you think!
