Maker Spotlight: Davide Barco
Where do you live?
I live in Milano, Italy., but I’m originally from a very small village not so far from Venice.
Does your art follow a theme or motif?
I try to take inspiration from everything. Sometimes I want to create more “geometric” compositions, so for 3/4 of the work, I’ll follow that style. Then, I change and take inspiration from the classic art, so I use old paintings as reference for my poses.
Do you see any similarities between the skills that are required to be good at art and sports?
The practice. It’s fundamental. It’s THE fundamental thing.
You can be an athlete, gifted by the genius to understand some situations, or by having the right body for the right sport. But without practice, you are going to be beaten by someone who hasn’t any gifts, yet has the hard work on his shoulders.
I see the same in me. Maybe I’m gifted, maybe not. But surely, I’m a hard worker.
Athletes are of course creative — that’s why we have Maradona, Messi, Michael Jordan, LeBron James, and many, many more. They had the sparkle to solve some situations with an idea, applied in the right moment in the right time.
What words do you live by?
You are as good as your last performance or work.
