5 Best iPad Pro Cases for 2024

Believe it or not, iPad cases can make or break your experience. The right case can protect your iPad, transform it into a second monitor, and make transport super easy.

The iPad Pro starts from $999. If you plan on investing in this high-spec, impressive iPad, it’s worth buying a case too.

Let’s look at our top six picks for the best iPad Pro case.

esr shift magnetic ipad pro case

Version 1.0.0

Price: $59.99

Compatible models: 11, 12.9, and 13-inch iPad Pro, 11 and 13-inch iPad Air

Material: Rubber, polycarbonate, thermoplastic polyurethane

Weight: 15.8 oz

For many, this is the best iPad Pro case on the market. It covers every base: it has a detachable case, nine viewing angles, and a pocket for your stylus. This case is great for people who use their iPad for studying, typing, watching videos, playing games, and more.

In 2023, the Shift case won the Red Dot Award for being the first case to enable a raised screen view. There are six landscape and portrait angles for viewing and three for writing and drawing. Strong magnets and broad support brackets ensure your iPad stays in place, even on your lap.

If you want a more hands-on experience, you can detach the back case in just a few seconds, but you won’t get the instant activation and deactivation feature that happens when the case is on. You can even use the magnetic back of the case to attach your iPad to your fridge.

The built-in pouch keeps your Apple Pencil safe, even on the go. When you clip your stylus to your iPad, it automatically slots into the pouch. The magnetic clip and pouch combine to create a secure connection, giving you added peace of mind.

The creatives behind the Shift have thought of everything. The back panel has vents that force heat to dissipate, keeping your iPad cooler for longer. Additionally, the case has raised edges that cocoon your iPad, protecting it from everyday wear and tear.

Not only does the Shift guarantee real-time versatility, but it also increases the lifespan of your iPad Pro. For just $59.99, you can snag this mid-range, comprehensive iPad Pro case.

Favorite feature: Air vents in the back panel

apple smart folio for ipad pro

Price: $79.00

Compatible models: 11, 12.9, and 13-inch iPad Pro, iPad Mini, iPad Air

Material: Polyurethane

Weight: 14 oz

The Smart Folio case is Apple’s own creation, but is it the best iPad Pro case for all situations?

A single piece of polyurethane covers the front and back of the iPad Pro. Interestingly, Apple decided to leave the edges exposed. It’s clear that the Smart Folio isn’t designed for wear, tear, and drops, but it has a pleasant texture that allows you to grip your iPad much more effectively than you would without the case.

When you open the case, your iPad automatically activates. Likewise, when you close the case, your iPad automatically turns off. It seems simple enough, but this feature streamlines the user experience.

This iPad Pro case has three angles. You can put your iPad upright, slightly slanted, and almost flat. You can take notes, call a friend on FaceTime, or watch your favorite movie. All in all, the Smart Folio offers functionality, aesthetic appeal, and a pleasant handling experience.

Favorite feature: Grippable texture

logitech combo touch with trackpad ipad pro case

Price: $199.95

Compatible models: 11, 12.9, and 13-inch iPad Pro, iPad Air, and iPad

Material: Thermoplastic polyurethane, low-carbon aluminum, textiles

Weight: 20.25 oz

At almost $200, this is one of the most expensive iPad Pro cases out there. That said, it comes complete with a keyboard and trackpad that transforms your iPad into a laptop. Smart Connector technology allows you to instantly pair the case to your iPad, so you never have to wait too long to type out your ideas.

The keyboard is detachable, allowing you to switch between a typical kickback iPad case and a combo keyboard and trackpad. All the keys are backlit and have 16 levels of brightness for day and night typing. The keyboard also has a full set of function keys, a welcome change from Apple’s iPad keyboard. Responsive navigation and multi-touch gestures allow you to use the trackpad as effectively as possible.

The case is a bit heavier than typical iPad cases, but the keyboard and trackpad are worth the trade-off. Besides, the case has shock-absorbing qualities and a nice, tactile finish.

Favorite feature: Auto-adjusting backlit keys

apple magic keyboard ipad pro case

Price: $299

Compatible models: 11, 12.9, 13–inch iPad Pro and iPad Air

Material: Silicone casing

Weight: 25.6 oz

I’ve included this option as an alternative to Logitech’s keyboard, trackpad, and case combo. It’s more expensive, but it has a few attractive features. The elegance of Apple’s keyboard can’t be overstated and, like the Logitech case, this iPad Pro case and keyboard combo also has backlit keys.

The Apple Magic Keyboard attaches magnetically to the back of your iPad, with the keyboard folding over the screen. It doesn’t cover the sides of the screen, leaving your iPad vulnerable to drops, wear and tear, and the elements. If you’re looking for an iPad Pro case that will protect your device while you travel, this might not be the best option for you.

When you open the Apple Magic Keyboard case, your iPad will automatically wake up. This might seem like an underwhelming feature on what is essentially a $300 case, but it’s worth mentioning.

Using the keyboard and trackpad is a pleasure. This case has one of the most responsive trackpads I’ve used; there’s no lag, and even clicking feels premium.

It’s easy enough to separate the keyboard from the case, but beware that you won’t have the added protection of the keyboard. You might have to handle your iPad more carefully, but most people do anyway.

Midway through 2024, Apple released an updated version of this keyboard that’s only compatible with the new M4 iPad Pro models. The only tweak is the palm rest, which is made out of aluminum.

Unfortunately, the Apple Magic Keyboard is only available in black and white. It’s a minor annoyance, but for the premium price tag, it would be nice to have a wider range of colors.

zugu ipad pro case

Price: $95.99

Compatible models: 11, 12.9, and 13-inch iPad Pro, iPad Air, iPad Mini, and iPad

Material: TPU, PC, and microfiber

Weight: 12.7 oz

If you want to protect your iPad from all of life’s little bumps, the Zugu case is a great option. It looks and feels solid, and these design choices are reflected in the functionality of the device. The rugged, bumped TPU and PC shell guarantees protection against drops.

Zugu iPad Pro cases have substance and style. Despite the hardy exterior, this case is still satisfying to the touch. The soft microfiber interior gives it an even more premium feel, and the built-in stylus pouch is a nice, sophisticated addition.

Earlier this year, Zugu released the same case for the new M4 iPad Pro models. These cases are available in Black, Slate, Berry, and Pine.

Like all the best iPad Pro cases, the Zugu case has an auto sleep and wake feature. One side of the cover is also magnetic, meaning you can attach the case to your fridge, table, or any other metal surface.

There are eight notches in the magnetic panel. This is a simple, straightforward approach that allows you to explore angles in increments until you find the perfect position for writing, drawing, and studying.

Compared to the other iPad Pro cases I’ve reviewed, the Zugu case is lightweight. It’s a good combination of protection, functionality, and easy handling.
